Buddy Morrow

Big Band Cruise

Arriving In Miami in the afternoon we were hit with a hot blast of air, which after 9 hours on our flight leaving the UK in cold weather, and spending the next nine hours in an aircraft that seemed to have left a window open at 35,000 ft, we were looking forward to warming up.
The hot sun of Florida was very welcome indeed. Our Big Band Buddies and friends arrived to collect us, and we were soon heading for their house to relax for the rest of the day while they prepared themselves for the journey to the cruise ship MSC Opera.
On board the ship, which was to take us around the Caribbean visiting a number of islands and countries was none other than the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra directed by a man we have admired for many years Buddy (Night Train) Morrow.
Also on board was a singer well known to me, and especially in the Florida area and someone who was on the top of our popularity list when she became the lead singer in 'The Hillside Singers' and that hit song, I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing. Lorri Hafer with Husband Mike, and Son Paul entertained us during the Cruise with afternoon and evening Concerts.

Add to this the singing talents of Michele Anastasio and Herb Oscar Anderson holding the thing together with his compereing and interviews this was one welcome big band extravaganza brought to us and sponsored by Music Of Your Life (http://www.musicofyourlife.com)

During the 10-day cruise Buddy Morrow was interviewed by Herb Oscar Anderson with an audience of fans who posed a number of questions for Herb to ask Buddy. This was being recorded for later broadcasting through the 'Music of Your life' Network.

Buddy Morrow was looking a lot different from the last time I had seen him on a programme recorded about ten years ago. He had lost a lot of weight, and of course was now somewhat older, as we were to find out as Herb Anderson asked Buddy,
"Would he mind if he gave his age to everybody?

Buddy, as sharp as ever replied, "You can give it away to anyone who wants it".

The interview which I filmed can be seen below in three parts:-
