of the music of the Big Band era; and especially if it is played by what
is generally accepted as "The Best Big Band In The Land" The Syd
Lawrence Orchestra, then this is definitely the cruise for you! This orchestra has been touring around the country for more than 42 years but it is getting increasingly difficult in many places to have the orchestra visit your area due to the continuing closure of venues. So it makes sense that if you feel like taking a break and you want to condense several years of big band concerts in one go, then a cruise can be the answer with a starting price of less than £80 per day. In that price you get a concert almost every day of the cruise as well as living in luxury for the period. During the cruise you have the chance to visit several countries, see the local beauty spots and interesting places. While on board there is a huge variety of things to do. In recent years my
wife and I have enjoyed three cruises with friends in America, all big band
events, and have been thoroughly thrilled by the experience, and I urge
all my 'Big Band Buddy' friends to really give some thought into a cruise
next year. Some of the cruises I have been on have not only the big band
concerts and dances, but also lectures and audio visual talks about the
period of the the big bands, 'The Big Band Era'. In the following pages I have put together as much information as I could gather for you on the two Marco Polo cruises next year in the hope you will take the opportunity to capture a holiday to be remembered. |

The director of the Syd Lawrence Orchestra Chris Dean has told me that you will have an amazing range of concerts on both of the planned cruises. During the 'Majestic Fjordland' cruise the band will play 5 evening concerts out of the 8 days you are at sea, and 6 evening concerts on the 'French Leave' September cruise out of the 10 days at sea. The theme of these concerts will range from Music of the Best of the Big Bands, A Ted Heath Concert, Glenn Miller Night, Big Band Divas, The songs of Matt Monro, Big Band In Hollywood, A Big Band Gala Night and Sinatra the Capitol Years, a wide range of the best of the best music played by this superb orchestra. Also on board, Marco Polo's own entertainment team will perform some great stage shows. In addition to all that an afternoon Jazz' event will happen subject to port calls. The Marco Polo is a very friendly ship. Richard Sykes the cruise director, and his staff are there to make this holiday really special for you. You will have the chance to meet band members, which proved very popular on last years cruise. With a formal restaurant, and an informal dining area you'll meet and make many new friends. As with all cruises, certainly that I have been on, you'll find you will be looked after like VIP's so enjoy yourself and have a great time. |
